Explosive
Last night quick, violently-loud explosions were heard throughout my neighborhood. I knew that fireworks were going on at the Kennedy Center for a Chinese celebration. The first round went off, I felt fine. The second round, got me a little nervous. The third round of massive explosions shook the house. I live miles from the Kennedy Center. Multiple sirens blared all going in the same direction
I had two pregnant women, a baby and one other friend at my house. I wondered how we could all get out together. How and when would we meet up with my husband. A call came in from him. He was at the Kennedy Center; it was the fireworks.
Out on the porch I found many other neighbors who thought it might be time to evacuate too. Apparently 911 was flooded with calls. The sirens were fire trucks dispatched in response to the flurry of calls. One small crack in the veneer of normalcy, shows how on edge we in DC really are.
My, how the world has changed.
