The Motorcade that Shouldn't

I explained that I was underneath the Kennedy Center and was waiting and waiting. The kind officer on the phone said there was an event.
I said - "oh the motorcade". He said, "something like that." I had noticed a number of presidential choppers flying overhead too.
Does one man's travel accross town really warrant multiple choppers, road closures, a half dozen Navigators, and a full on police escort. Doesn't the motorcade just call more attention to the situation and waste a lot of gas. Next time just get in a toyota and drive accross town. Please.

Seriously. Same thing happened here in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 20th. They shut down the 405 freeway (which is already a giant parking lot) during prime traffic time, for Mr. George W.'s transportation needs. There were also choppers. More than anything it made most people nervous - like would we get bombed or something. And more than one of us muttered for George W. to go back to DC(sorry, District of Dunces).
I was once behind Clinton's motorcade in 2000. Motorcycle cops shut down the freeway on-ramps for the 10 Freeway and a bunch of cops escorted the huge entourage of cars. However, I got to ride right behind the cops and they did not close DOWN THE ENTIRE GODDAMN FREEWAY.
Interestingly, Clinton's entourage of cars moved to the fast/leftlane of the freeway even though they owned the whole thing.
Absolute power doesn't change everything I guess.
